Judges Report: Update on Eberle Road Bridge Project

by submitted by County Judge Executive Shane Gabbard

We are seeing a lot of progress on a project that we have been seeking funding for several years to complete. The bridge on Eberle Road in the southwestern end of Jackson County is now under construction and is coming along quickly. This bridge serves the citizens of Jackson and Laurel County. It is on the Jackson/Laurel County line and is a popular route for many of our citizens. The current bridge that is there is well over 40 years old and has gradually gotten in poor condition. The recent floods in the past few years have caused a lot of damage to the bridge. The Fiscal Court along with Laurel County Fiscal Court made a request to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to have the bridge reconstructed. After several years of planning and study, the project was approved by the State and funded. The design of the bridge moves the new structure downstream from the original structure and raises the elevation of the bridge. This will hopefully prevent future flooding and improve traffic flow in the area. This project is another example when counties work together to improve infrastructure in our region. We have a great working relationship with our surrounding counties and hope to see future projects, like the one on Eberle Road, come to fruition. I appreciate our State Legislatures, KYTC and our Fiscal Court for following through to see this important infrastructure project come to pass.

Have a blessed week
