Lady Generals Defeat Clay County in 49[th] District Tournament - Advance to Championship Game

by JCHS Lady Generals Head Coach Gary D. Tillery

The Jackson County High School Lady Generals came out strong in the first round of the 49th District Softball Tournament, defeating the Clay County Lady Tigers 7-3 on May 19. With the victory, the Lady Generals punched their ticket to the 13th Regional Tournament for the second year in a row -- once again eliminating their district rivals in the process.

After falling behind 3-1 through three innings, the Lady Generals mounted an impressive comeback in the bottom of the fourth. With their bats coming alive, they plated three runs to take a 4-3 lead and never looked back. Another three-run surge in the fifth gave them some much-needed breathing room and helped secure the win.

The Lady Generals' defense was a key factor in the game, highlighted by standout performances from Macy Wathen at first base and Candice Williams in the pitcher's circle. Williams delivered a dominant outing, striking out 10 batters while allowing just two earned runs.

Offensively, Jackson County was led by Lexi Brockman, Kylie Moore, and Williams, who each collected two hits. Williams was clutch at the plate as well, delivering a huge two-out hit that drove in two runs -- part of her three RBI performance on the night.

Baylee Berry also contributed a hit to the effort, while Blakelynn Fee showed patience at the plate, drawing two walks and scoring twice. Moore crossed the plate twice as well, helping to fuel the offensive surge.

The win not only continues the Lady Generals' postseason journey but also solidifies their recent success in the 49[th] District. Jackson County will now prepare for regional play as they look to keep their season alive and make a deeper run into the postseason.

The Lady Generals will play North Laurel for the 49[th] District Championship on Wednesday at Clay County. The first pitch is scheduled for 5:30 PM.
