Jackson County High School 2025 Prom Promise

by Ms. Destiny Paige Ramey

At our high school, we value the safety and well-being of every student. The "Prom Promise" is a commitment made by students to not drink and drive. It's a pledge to make smart, safe choices during prom season and to look out for one another.

As part of this important message, our Link Crew students perform a powerful skit to show the real-life consequences of drinking and driving. It is not possible or fair to believe that our youth will never make a mistake as they grow up, but we can all work together to educate them into understanding that they can prevent themselves and others from making one that could destroy their life, and put others at risk. Therefore, by making the Prom Promise, we stand together to protect our future and ensure that prom is a night to remember -- for all the right reasons.

This would not be possible without the leadership of English teacher and Link Crew Coordinator, Mrs. Tiffany Medlock, senior Link Crew students, and our Deputy Director of Emergency Management Brody Keck along with the rest of Jackson County Emergency Management, 911, EMS, Jackson County Sheriff's Office, Jackson County Coroner's Office, and McKee Police Department, along with everyone who donated the vehicles we needed for the skit.

We also would like to thank our Principal, Mr. Parrett, for trusting us, and allowing us to showcase this event to the whole school. Thank you to Ms. Bingham for allowing us to use her space, along with Mrs. Young, her culinary class, and Assistant Principal Mr. Coffey for cooking a nice meal after the event, and Justin Lakes from PRTC for coming out to film the event.

It truly takes a village, and I am thankful for ours.

(The skit told a story of 2 students leaving from prom in their car, while others had left earlier to go night riding in their side by sides. We chose this idea because this is a more modern occurrence that we see in the community, as it is a fun pastime. However, the students in the side by sides had been drinking which altered their ability to drive safely. As they were driving on the highway, they crossed over onto the other lane and collided into the car of the 2 students who were leaving prom. This left 1 deceased, 2 in critical condition, 2 in stable condition, but minor injuries/trauma, and the others were charged for driving under the influence, and vehicular manslaughter.)
