Jackson County Middle School Volleyball: Building a Legacy of Excellence
For the past four years, Jackson County Middle School's volleyball team has been under the guidance of dedicated coaches who have transformed the program into a powerhouse. Coaches Chris and Heather Truett love the game and their players. Their commitment and expertise culminated in an unprecedented achievement: leading the team to an All A Team championship in 2024. This victory marks a historic moment for the school, as it's the first time such a feat has been accomplished.
The coaches' tenure has been defined by a focus on skill development, teamwork, and strategic gameplay. They instilled a sense of discipline and determination in their players, fostering an environment where each athlete could reach their full potential. Their innovative training methods and personalized attention have not only improved the team's performance but also nurtured a love for the sport among the athletes, the student body pep section, and community.
The All A Team championship is a testament to the hard work and dedication of both the coaches and the players. It's a milestone that will be remembered for years to come, inspiring future generations of Jackson County Middle School volleyball players to strive for greatness. This victory is not just a win for the team, but a source of pride for the entire community.
Before Coaches Chris and Heather accepted their positions, JCMS had not competed in multiple tournaments like All A, Lindsey Wilson College Blue Raider Middle School Tournament, All Conference, and more. Participation is key to success. These coaches and two volunteer assistants, Shelby Berry and Allison Truett, dedicate their time in drills, explicit training, and dedication.
"This year our team has fought hard", says Coach Heather Truett. "6th grade has made monumental strides in skill building. 7th grade has been a strong hold and 8th grade gave it all they had on the court every single time."

We'd like to extend a special thank you to our 2025 JCMS 8th Graders: Addi Wilson, Alexa Collins, Aliyah Welch, Emmalyn Harris, Isabella Gilbert, Kallie Gabbard, Olivia Wagers, and Miley Harrison. These eight young ladies have played all three grade levels at JCMS. They began as Lady Colonels and changed to Lady Generals in 2023, proudly accepting the upgrade to being a Jackson County General.
Coach Chris Truett stated, "This is a family of players and that makes all the difference." Both coaches support their players academically, athletically, and encourage them. They also celebrate their players' growth and success at the end of every season with a banquet. Coaches, parents, and players alike remember these banquets as not only celebrations of the season, but a testament of the strong relationships the coaches have built with families and their team.
Jackson County Middle School Volleyball has gained so much recognition amongst their district and region teams, becoming a major part of the sport. "We rally around to support our local teams in sportsmanship and have made numerous friendships across counties", says Coach Heather. "Being able to move up and out in the volleyball community has been an amazing journey for this team over the years." Coaches Chris and Heather Truett have announced a volleyball club at Tyner Elementary School. McKee and Sand Gap also have volleyball clubs. The elementary schools have collectively set up a scrimmage day for students to showcase the skills they have learned. This will encourage our future Generals to pick up a volleyball and have fun.
"We want to make a positive impact on these players and our community," says Coach Chris. "This team has many supportive parents and grandparents that never miss a game, home or away. We owe our success to our players, JCMS Principal Jason Vaughn, Assistant Principal Jacob Bowling and Staff, Athletic Director Wes Bishop, Superintendent Renee Smith; community and player parents." said Coach Chris.
Both coaches look forward to a chance to make volleyball a focal point for the community for years to come. Building a stronger legacy, one game at a time.
