ATTENTION NONCUSTODIAL PARENTS (NCPS) WHO OWE CHILD SUPPORT IN JACKSON COUNTY! (Message from Jackson County Attorney's Office)

On Saturday, May 24th, 2025 the following message was posted to the social media page for the Jackson County Attorney's Office:

The failure of a parent to pay child support is a failure of the most fundamental and basic responsibilities of a person who chooses to bring a child into this world.  There can be no excuse unless you have no income and are catastrophically injured or disabled.  Most parents would turn the world upside down for their children.  I've tried for years to encourage people to pay their child support through various means.  And I've been lied to over and over again.  One guy told me in court that he wasn't paying his child support because his mom just died....well I looked it up and she had died 8 years before the hearing!  I was furious.  Well, it is time to take off the gloves.

THIS IS A WARNING!  You have 30 days to get your case into compliance.  After that, if you are not making regular monthly payments in full on your child support obligation and you are $2,500.00 or more delinquent on your child support obligation, you can expect felony criminal charges to be filed against you from my office.  With some of you, we've tried everything.  The Commonwealth has even taken some people's driver's licenses and still they don't pay.

There will be 12 cases that are going to be filed shortly.  Everyone else can expect criminal charges after that.  Because there are so many, it may take a little while to get to everyone....but we are coming for you unless you pay your child support.

NCPs!!  You have two (2) choices!  Either pay your child support or we will do our best to send you to prison!  Have a great memorial day weekend everyone!
