2025 PRTC Classic Recap

Posted

The 2025 PRTC Classic delivered exactly what a December showcase in Jackson County should: a packed gym, big individual performances, and a clear glimpse of the future for local programs. Friday’s opener featured an extremely young Jackson County Lady Generals squad against Leslie County. With two 7th graders, two sophomores, and one junior in the starting lineup, Jackson was clearly in rebuilding mode and fell 67–33. Even in defeat, the storyline was the emergence of 7th grader Adalyn Brockman, who led the Lady Generals in scoring and showed the poise and confidence of an older player. Her performance hinted that, while the present may be a grind, the program’s long‑term ceiling is high.

The second girls’ game was a heavyweight battle between the Clay County Lady Tigers and the Bell County Lady Cats. This one stayed tight from tip to buzzer, with Bell County ultimately escaping 54–51. Game MVP Karai Lamb took over the floor, posting a dominant 31 points and 20 rebounds. Her stat line was the difference in an otherwise even matchup and set the bar for individual performances on the weekend.

The third game brought the Jackson County Generals boys to center stage against the Lee County Bobcats. Jackson’s depth, pressure, and tempo overwhelmed Lee in an 81–31 win. Wyatt Gray earned PRTC Game MVP honors with 17 points and two crowd‑pleasing dunks that energized the home fans and signaled that the Generals plan to play above the rim this season.

The nightcap showcased the Clay County Tigers versus Knox Central in a boys’ matchup that was competitive early before swinging decisively in Clay’s favor. Knox Central hung around through the first half, but Clay’s adjustments and defensive intensity after the break powered a 73–49 victory. Sophomore Jacob Rogers stole the show, earning PRTC Player of the Game with 30 points, including a blistering eight three‑pointers. His shooting display turned a close game into a comfortable win and underscored how dangerous Clay can be when its guards get hot from the perimeter.

Day two expanded the spotlight to the younger levels, starting with the 7th- and 8th-grade Generals. The 7th-grade squad battled but fell to Foley by ten, a reminder that Jackson’s youth movement is still learning how to finish games. The 8th graders, however, picked up a hard‑fought win over Clay County, edging them by five. That victory, combined with the varsity boys’ dominance, showed that the pipeline in Jackson County basketball is strong across multiple grades.

The varsity boys’ matchup on day two pitted the Generals against district opponent Red Bird. Jackson controlled the game from the outset and rolled to a 77–33 win, flashing both balance and toughness. PRTC Game MVP Tansen Truett turned in a double‑double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, anchoring the paint on both ends and setting a physical tone. His performance, along with strong guard play around him, reinforced the sense that the Generals can contend night in and night out in the 13th Region.

The Classic closed with the Lady Generals returning to the floor against the Owsley County Lady Owls. Jackson County showed clear improvement from the first night, competing wire‑to‑wire before coming up just short, 51–41. Junior Baylee Berry led the way with 14 points, while sophomore Rylee Bowman added 12, giving Jackson a more balanced offensive attack. Even in another loss, the Lady Generals looked more composed and connected, an encouraging sign for such a young group.

Overall, the 2025 PRTC Classic was a success on and off the court. Local fans turned out in force, filling the gym and creating an authentic small‑town Kentucky basketball atmosphere. The event highlighted rising stars such as Brockman, Lamb, Gray, Rogers, Truett, Berry, and Bowman, and showcased the depth of basketball talent in and around Jackson County. More importantly, it gave the community a chance to rally around its teams early in the season, building momentum and excitement that should carry well into district and regional play.
