A Letter of Gratitude to the Heroes of Our Community

Posted

To Our Volunteer Firefighters, First Responders, Emergency Personnel, Volunteers, and the Citizens of McKee:

On behalf of our entire community, we extend our deepest gratitude and heartfelt appreciation to each of you for your extraordinary service, unwavering dedication, and selfless sacrifice during the devastating flood that impacted our beloved community.

In the face of overwhelming challenges, you answered the call without hesitation. Our volunteer firefighters, emergency medical personnel, law enforcement officers, rescue teams, public works employees, utility crews, church groups, civic organizations, and countless volunteers worked tirelessly, often around the clock, to protect lives, assist families, clear debris, restore essential services, and begin rebuilding our community. Your courage, compassion, and determination provided hope when it was needed most.

We also want to recognize the many citizens of McKee who stepped forward to help neighbors, provide meals, donate supplies, offer shelter, and lend a helping hand wherever it was needed. Your generosity and kindness demonstrated the true spirit of community and reminded us that even in the darkest moments, we are stronger together.

Because of your resilience and commitment, the City of McKee has begun the journey toward recovery with renewed strength and hope. While much work remains, your efforts have laid the foundation for rebuilding not only homes and businesses but also the spirit of our community.

Please accept our sincere thanks for your dedication, your service, and the countless sacrifices you made on behalf of others. Your actions will never be forgotten, and future generations will remember the compassion and courage you displayed during one of the most challenging times in our community’s history.
With heartfelt appreciation and profound respect,

Mayor Michael Stidham and family, Elizabeth, Caroline, and Harrison
