Alva “Jean” Fox, born March 12, 1951, in Dayton, Ohio, departed this life on September 13, 2026, in Richmond, KY. She was a daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a woman who spent her life taking care of others.
Jean had a heart that made room for people. She didn’t believe that family was defined only by blood. Throughout her life, she opened her home and her heart to children. She had a way of making people feel like they belonged.
For more than 40 years, Jean worked as a hairdresser, a career that allowed her to spend her life surrounded by people. Her work was more than a job—it was a part of who she was and a place where she formed countless friendships and connections throughout the years.
Outside of work, Jean loved the simple things that made a house feel like home. She loved having a garden, spending time outdoors, and having cookouts surrounded by the people she loved. She found joy in bringing people together, feeding them, caring for them, and making memories.
Jean was preceded in death by a very special friend, Fred Sandlin, who held a special place in her heart.
She leaves behind a family shaped not only by blood, but by love—a family who will carry her memory, the lessons she taught them, and the love she gave so freely.
Jean’s greatest legacy will not simply be the years she lived, but the lives she touched, the children she loved, and the people she made feel like family.
A memorial service for Alva “Jean’ Fox may be held at a later date.
