After fifty years (off and on) Jones Implement Company will be closing its doors on September 1st. The business was started by our family in the 1950’s, and after taking a few years off starting in 1983, we reopened under the Jones name again in 2009. Paul passed away in 2016, but Ramona has kept the business going over the past 10 years on her own. She says, “Closing the business is bittersweet because we have enjoyed working here in the Tyner community and have met so many wonderful people over our time here.”
When considering the close, Ramona cited her age as the major contributing factor. “Also, my daughter suggested that since she was retired, I might consider doing the same.”
“Jones Implement Company was created when Paul (my husband) had trouble finding work after leaving the Navy. When he could not find a job, he created one by becoming a Massey Ferguson dealer. The first year could have been better – he only lost $50. I remember he sold a tobacco setter at a discounted price, provided that he could use it one time himself.”
“Subsequent years were better, as we added more farm implements, International Harvester trucks and tractors, and Stihl equipment, as well as parts and service.”
It has been a real pleasure to help meet the needs of farmers, homeowners, and a wide range of businesses in Jackson County and surrounding counties. The Jones family deeply appreciates your support of this home-town business through the years. The relationships and friendships we have built during our time here will be treasured always.
During our “going out of business” sale, I was surprised and gratified by the number of people who came in just to say “thank you” for being here all these years.
Ramona Jones
