The Jackson County Attorney’s Office is doing exactly what they told Non-Custodial parents (who are not supporting their children) they would do almost one year ago. Jackson County District Court holds session every Monday. This Monday (March 16, 2026) alone, there were fourteen cases of alleged flagrant non-support before Judge Allen B. Roberts. This is far from the total, and numerous other alleged cases are making their way through the courts.
On May 24th, 2025 the Jackson County Attorney’s Office posted the following message to their social media site: “The failure of a parent to pay child support is a failure of the most fundamental and basic responsibilities of a person who chooses to bring a child into this world. There can be no excuse unless you have no income and are catastrophically injured or disabled. Most parents would turn the world upside down for their children. I've tried for years to encourage people to pay their child support through various means. Well, it is time to take off the gloves.
THIS IS A WARNING! You have 30 days to get your case into compliance. After that, if you are not making regular monthly payments in full on your child support obligation and you are $2,500.00 or more delinquent on your child support obligation, you can expect felony criminal charges to be filed against you from my office.
Because there are so many, it may take a little while to get to everyone...but we are coming for you unless you pay your child support.
NCPs!! You have two (2) choices! Either pay your child support or we will do our best to send you to prison!”
The defendants are first arraigned before a District Court Judge. If the defendant pleads not guilty at their arraignment, a preliminary hearing is held to determine whether there is probable cause to believe the crime has been committed. If probable cause is found, the case is bound over to a grand jury for consideration of the evidence and possible indictment(s).
If the grand jury issues an indictment, then the case is referred to the Circuit Court to be processed as a potential felony offense. The defendants are then arraigned before a Circuit Court Judge, and the case is pursued toward a resolution and/or conviction. Several cases are currently being processed by the Circuit Court.
