This is Paul Hays, Judge Executive for Jackson County. We have been working hard to complete end of the year reports and pay bills and transfers for the fiscal year 2025-2026. With that work completed, we now begin the new Fiscal Year with hope to take care of the following issues:
We have significant flooding occurring as we speak, with US 421 completed covered near the old Brewer Truss building. A family had to be rescued from a vehicle stalled in the middle of the road; however, no one was injured. A road slide was reported on Macedonia Road which had covered the road. Our road crews are enroute to address this matter. PLEASE do not attempt to cross roadways that are covered with water. Turn around and don1t drown!
We are working with the Sheriff’s Office, Detention Center, Emergency Services section, etc. to gradually reduce personnel numbers through natural attrition. We are exploring voluntary layoffs, furloughs, etc. to keep our budget in line for all departments. We also are trying to procure additional equipment to supplement worn out vehicles which are in need of replacement.
We are partnering with Daniel Boone Community Action to help provide training and employment opportunities for our employees.
I have received several calls regarding park conditions throughout the county. We are working with the Fairground Committee to improve playground equipment, clean up and enhance parks throughout the county.
Our garbage issues are being addressed. Our complaints regarding this matter are down and we are making progress with old unpaid garbage bills. Please pay your garbage bills promptly. It helps all of us when we do the right thing.
Our tire take-back project was a great success. We collected 10,989 tires during the event. Our transfer station, working with the Highway
department, did a great job in reducing the number of old tires lying all over the county. Thanks to all who helped make a difference.
Our personnel at the Jackson County Judge Executive office are working diligently to bring about the changes necessary to make Jackson County a place we can all be proud to live in. Thank you to all who support our efforts. God bless.
