Jackson County Public Schools have started awarding an attendance belt as an incentive to encourage students to come to school. This is especially important throughout the remainder of the school year. As spring weather approaches it can be tempting to let absences accumulate, however, we need to make sure that we push through and attend when healthy and able. I would like to be able to win the belt and have it here at JCHS for winning the highest attendance percentage in the district.
In regards to the topic of attendance, we want to remind all students and parents that in order to be eligible for Prom, graduation, extracurricular activities, etc. That students MUST have no more than 20 unexcused absences in the school year. If the number of absences exceeds 20, that student will not be permitted to attend those events. With extra curricular activities, according to KHSAA guidelines, students must be present for 5/7 blocks or 4/6 for seniors and juniors who attend dual credit classes or work co-ops. If they do not meet that requirement, we are not allowed to let them participate in games those days.
The school board has announced that we will be extending the school day by 19 minutes each day. This will allow us to take our end date for students to (tentatively). Jun 5, 2026. We have published on our facebook page the new daily schedules for students, parents, and guardians.
