JCHS “General” Information (Week of Oct 20 - 24, 2025)

Posted

Mr. Harris and the vocational staff are busy as always this week. Students are taking a field trip to Hyster Tuesday. The woodworking classes are building and selling pic-nic tables. If you have questions or are interested in a table please contact Brian Harris or Gerald Maupin at the Jackson County Vocational School.

We had our last home football game Friday Oct 17th with plenty of tailgating, food, and socialization with fans as the Generals fought hard but came up a little short against Morgan County. The Generals have 2 regular season games left on the road vs. Breathitt County ( Oct 24th ) and Pineville( Oct 30 ) before they meet Beechwood in KHSAA playoff round 1.

Our attendance prize winner last week was Ethan Baker.

We want to give a big shout out to the Richmond State Police Post for allowing Trooper Starlin Hacker to speak to Ms. Jackson's Jag students. They also help provide security for our last home football game.

We also want to shout out to Sheriff Daniel Isaacs and his SRO officers and deputies for helping with the home football game Friday night and our Homecoming dance that took place on Saturday night

Ms. Hurst, Cheerleaders, Teachers and Cheer Parents helped sponsor, prepare and chaperone the school dance. Students came in all dressed up and ready to dance for a few hours. Big Thanks to Cheer for hosting this event !!

Teachers met in PLC last week with Mrs. Boggs. The focus was to relate attendance and responsibility to academic rigor, excused absence make-up work policy, unexcused absence policy, and using HQIR resources in their classrooms. Math and Social studies were asked to focus on Savas while English uses HMH. Science will continue to focus on using Open SCIED as their main resource. Our staff is focusing on raising the standards for JCHS classroom rigor, teaching students accountability, and increasing knowledge each day. We expect the best from our staff and students each day.

The nine weeks will end OCT 27th. We will be hosting an open house on Nov 4th 4-7Pm. for students and parents to pick up report cards and meet teachers if needed. If you need to schedule an appointment with any teacher at anytime please email the teacher or you can email Mr. Parrett directly and we'll schedule the meeting for you.

Coach Stewart ( AD ) hosted the 49th district volleyball meeting on Friday, October 17th, as we prepared to host the event this year. Big shout out and thanks to Mrs. Young and her culinary classes for serving refreshments to our guest at the district meeting

JCHS is hosting the 49th district VB tournament this week. Jackson County girls secured the one seed during the regular season and will play the winner of OBI and Red Bird in the first round. With a win in the first round the Lady Generals would meet the winner of Clay-North game in the Championship on Tuesday night.

The Girls’ and Boys’ basketball Coaches held tryouts on Oct 15th and are in full swing practicing each day for the upcoming season. We look forward to supporting both teams this season.

Coach Rader and Cross Country are working hard this week as they prepare for the Cross Country region tournament to be held in Morgan County Saturday Oct. 25th.
Good Luck running, Generals and Lady Generals!

Last Friday, JCHS FFA members worked with JAG and FBLA advisors to host the second annual Say Boo to Cancer Fun Run. The proceeds from this event totaled over $600, which will be donated to the Jackson Co Cancer Fund.

The annual Donkey Basketball game will be on Friday, November 7th, at 7:00 pm at Jackson Co High School. Tickets are on sale now through Nov 6th for $8 each. Children 6 and under are free. Ticket prices at the game will be $10 each. Children 12 and under will get a free ride at halftime.

The Jackson County Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter is collecting new/gently used shoes for 3rd world countries. We have collected 375 pairs of shoes so far, but we need help from the community to reach our goal of 500 pairs of shoes. If your business, organization, or church would like to collect shoes, you can contact Sarah McQueen (sarah.mcqueen@jackson.kyschools.us) to arrange pick-up! The deadline to donate shoes is October 31.

If attendance is good this week our students will be experiencing a reward ( Remix ) on Thursday 10-29-25. ( Students make sure you are at school each day )

Yours in academics and athletics !!
