Jackson County High School has been very busy over the last week. Teachers have focused on improving success criteria statements and making them measurable for students. English teachers have been wrapping up all pre-test results while diving into the curriculum of annotation, Lord of the Flies, and many other events. Randy Shepherd from Oneida visited with our Juniors to discuss surviving in the outdoors, to go along with Lord of the Flies .
PRI Tutoring is in full swing, with Mrs. Spurlock helping students improve their scores in English and Math. Mrs. Lunsford focuses on after school tutoring helping with math problems. Mrs. Rose and Mrs. Boggs oversee the program.
Our new Jags program is moving forward as Ms. Jackson helps students look at possible future careers and the requirements to be successful in those careers . Our science classes have been busy with open SCI-ED.
Ky Studies have been reporting on special artists from Kentucky as our other social studies classes have been diving into US and World history as they pursue current events.
The math department has been using Aleks and Savass to improve the rigour and challenge the students with complex problems. Some of our older students have been studying the stock market in personal finance .
Our Junior class were rewarded for having the best overall attendance for the first four weeks with a movie, popcorn and drinks.
We had a guest speaker Taylora Schlosser, former Marion County Superintendent as she shared a message with our student body ( Rae of Hope ) Her speech was aimed at helping people break the stigma around mental health issues. Her focus was on SMILE

Students also enjoyed club day as our many CTE, Academic, and other clubs met on the last day before fall break.
Teachers also met with Rick Fischer ( Deeper learning )during PLC's last week to discuss questioning techniques and note taking skills to improve memory of materials for students.
