Winter seems to have made an early arrival in Kentucky. We have had some unusually cold temperatures and several bouts with small snow events already this year. I want to remind everyone that County maintained roads are not salted during the winter.
Our road department does their best to clean them and sand the hills to help in travel. Our roads are not constructed to the same standards as State maintained Highways, so salt could be devastating to most of them. Most of our citizens know how to travel during the winter but extra caution is always advised, no matter how experienced you may be.
The early arrival of winter put a damper on any blacktop we hope to get laid this year. The Allen Company is the asphalt contractor that was awarded the bid for blacktop this year and have had some major issues with the blacktop plant in Clover Bottom. Hopefully they will get the plant fixed this winter and we will get blacktop laid this Spring.
I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas. I hope this joyous season is good to you. I want to encourage everyone to spend as much time with loved ones and friends as you can. Gifts and goodies are nice but nothing can take the place of time you can spend together.
Have a wonderful Christmas season and a Happy New Year!
