Notes to Consider…

Woodcraft: Favorite Outfitters (MidwayUSA)

Posted

I can think of no other smiling face so easily recognized as the captain of his company’s ship than Larry Potterfield, founder and owner of MidwayUSA. The company was started in Columbia, Missouri (“midway” between Kansas City and St. Louis on the Missouri River) in the late 1970s by Larry and his brother Jerry. Today, MidwayUSA is my go-to shooting supplies provider. If you’ve never done business with them, you’re missing out.

Buying online with MidwayUSA is the definition of streamlined. Potterfield’s inventory and shipping innovations have won him national retailing organization awards. Load up your account shopping cart; click on “Begin Checkout” and you will experience the most “pain-free” checkout in the outdoor outfitters’ world. Probably Potterfield’s most significant innovation has been his NRA Round-Up program. A brilliant plan; customers are simply asked to round-up their final checkout amount to the next higher dollar amount (e.g., $49.95 rounded-up to an even $50.00) with the proceeds being donated to America’s first civil rights organization: The National Rifle Association. To date, MidwayUSA customers have donated some $20 million dollars to the cause of preserving our natural right to keep and bear arms from the authoritarian Democrats.

Finally, Potterfield has given millions of his own dollars to promote shooting and hunting, sponsoring (to name just a few) over the years: The NRA Annual Meeting; The NRA Bianchi Cup; and the Outdoor Channel’s Wednesday Night on The Range lineup of shooting-related television shows. When it’s all said and done, Larry Potterfield may rightly be satisfied with the fact that he gave more than he took from the citizens who carry on the torch handed down to us by our pioneering forefathers. I encourage you to consider these facts the next time you purchase shooting and/or outdoor supplies.
