Generals’ West Tennessee Trip Combines Service, Homecoming, and Victory

Posted

Jackson County’s Boys’ basketball team recently made a memorable trip to Union City, Tennessee, combining a special homecoming for head coach Parker Stewart with community service and competitive basketball.

Coach Stewart, a former standout at Union City High School who helped lead the Golden Tornadoes to a state runner‑up finish, returned to his alma mater with the Generals for a pair of games and a meaningful off‑the‑court experience.

Before tip‑off in Union City, the Generals and the Union City boys’ team joined forces for a holiday service project at The Waters, a local skilled nursing and rehabilitation center. Players and coaches from both schools helped prepare and deliver Christmas bags filled with snacks and small gifts for the residents, spreading holiday cheer in the community.

Following the delivery, the two teams shared a joint team meal at the Casey Johnson Community Center, where they enjoyed fellowship and conversation before facing each other on the hardwood later that evening.

On the court, the Generals and Tornadoes played a hard‑fought contest at Union City High School. Jackson County held a 5‑point lead going into the fourth quarter, but Union City responded with a strong finish to pull out a 64–60 victory.

The Tornadoes outscored the Generals 21–12 in the final quarter, led by sophomore J.B. Thompson, who poured in 17 of his game‑high 25 points in the fourth period. Hollister Johnson added 23 points for Union City, while the Generals’ balanced effort kept them in the game until the final minutes.

The next day, the Generals shifted focus to team bonding and fun. The squad enjoyed a team lunch at Moustou’s in Union City before heading to nearby Martin, Tennessee, for a movie outing.

Players and coaches also toured the basketball facilities at the University of Tennessee at Martin, giving the Generals a firsthand look at a Division I college program and an opportunity to learn from the UT‑Martin staff. The day concluded back in Union City with a visit to Discovery Park of West Tennessee to enjoy the city’s holiday light show, capping a full day of team building and holiday spirit.

On the final day of the trip, the Generals traveled to Fulton City, Kentucky, for a matchup with the Bulldogs. Jackson County came out with energy and focus, building a big lead early and cruising to a 73–30 victory.

The Generals turned in a balanced scoring effort, with several players contributing as they pulled away in the second half. The win improved Jackson County’s record and gave the team a strong finish to their road trip.

From community service and a coach’s homecoming to team bonding and a pair of competitive games, the Generals’ trip to West Tennessee was about more than just basketball. It was a chance to build character, strengthen team chemistry, and represent Jackson County with pride both on and off the court.
