JCHS FCCLA Officers Serve Families at Ronald McDonald House in Lexington and Dry Fork Soup Kitchen in Sand Gap

Posted

Jackson County High School FCCLA officers continue to demonstrate outstanding leadership through service, completing two major community outreach projects this month.

Recently, members traveled to the Ronald McDonald House in Lexington, where they prepared lunch for families whose children are receiving treatment at the UK hospital. The Ronald McDonald House provides a “home away from home” by offering lodging, meals, and emotional support to families during medical crises. For many parents, having a meal ready after long hours at the hospital brings much-needed relief.

This experience reflects the mission of FCCLA—Family, Career and Community Leaders of America—which empowers students to strengthen families, develop leadership skills, and serve their communities. By volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House, JCHS students put these values into action with compassion, teamwork, and responsible citizenship.

Closer to home, FCCLA members also volunteered at the Dry Fork Soup Kitchen, which serves meals to the community every Wednesday. This past week, students helped serve an impressive 320 Thanksgiving meals for local families. Their contributions included baking 20 cakes and three large pans of banana pudding, adding a homemade touch that made the holiday meal even more special.

Both service projects highlight the heart, dedication, and community spirit of JCHS FCCLA members. Whether supporting families facing medical challenges or meeting needs within their own county, these students continue to demonstrate leadership through meaningful action.

The JCHS FCCLA chapter plans to continue growing its community partnerships and engaging in service opportunities that make a lasting impact. Their work this month reminds us all that even small acts of kindness can change lives.
