10th Grade Physics Lab – Newton’s 2nd Law in Action!
Students in Mr. Wells’s 10th grade physics class put their hypotheses
to the test today as they explored which objects accelerate and hit
the ground first when dropped from the second-story balcony in the
lobby.
Using Newton’s 2nd Law (F = ma) as their guiding principle, students
predicted how mass, air resistance, and shape would affect each
object’s fall time. They then took turns filming each drop to capture
slow-motion evidence and compare results.
Items tested:
- Volleyball
- Softball
- Baseball
- Tennis Ball
- Marble
- Ping Pong Ball
Students observed the differences in how each object moved through the
air, sparking great discussions about force, mass, and acceleration in
real-world situations. A fun, hands-on way to learn physics!
STATIC ELECTRICITY LAB DAY!
Our freshmen scientists in Ms. Williams’ and Ms. Hurst’s classes had a shocking good time today exploring how static electricity interacts with everyday objects!
Students rotated through 4 hands-on stations, each designed to test a different static charge phenomenon:
- Pop Can + Balloon + Pencils
They used charged balloons to roll a soda can without touching it!
- Wool + Balloon + Wall
Rubbing the balloon with wool to see how long they could get it to stick to the wall
- Balloon + Hair
The classic crazy-hair moment — watching strands stand straight up!
- Spoon + Salt & Pepper
Using a charged spoon to magically lift just the pepper out of the mix!
Our students loved discovering how electrons move and create forces you can actually see — and laugh at! We love bringing science to life in our classroom.
