Notes to Consider…

Man-at-Arms: Favorite Holster Makers (Kramer Leather)

Posted

A law is universal. E.g., The Sun rising from the east; gravity; and “All men are created equal.” All other rules are mere “regulations.” Long before the Kentucky General Assembly took up concealed carry legislation, many intrepid Kentuckians had the audacity to believe their and their children’s lives were every bit as precious as were the perfumed politicians’ lives. Therefore, we carried firearms discreetly, regardless of the “rules.” On a side note, few things give me more pleasure than seeing mere “regulations” go by the wayside; such as Kentucky’s previous “regulation” requiring paying a tax (that’s what a permit fee really is) in order to carry a concealed firearm…and everything has been just fine.

One of my first “illicit” concealed carry rigs was a Kramer Leather horsehide (horsehide being the secret to Kramer’s trademark, skin tight molding to each particular pistol model) pocket holster for a tiny Beretta 950 BS in calibre .25 ACP. Laugh as one may, you must remember we were all under blanket “regulations” (which have subsequently disappeared; true “laws” don’t just simply evaporate) upon how we could protect our children and ourselves. If discovered, we faced all sorts of draconian penalties. That Kramer holster made the little Beretta practically disappear, allowing me to follow Gunfight Rule One: “Have a gun.”

Finally, if you were to order just a single holster from Kramer, I would highly recommend their “Vertical Scabbard.” In ‘02, SEAL Team Six famously blasted those who had foolishly attempted to assassinate Afghan President Karzai while under their watch. An iconic photograph from the attack’s aftermath captured a shirtless SEAL (he’d used his wrapped up uniform blouse to dress a minor head wound). The operator’s exposed Sig MK25 pistol was clearly carried in a Kramer Vertical Scabbard. Now, that’s a holster endorsement every maker dreams of!

Next Week: Galco Holsters
