“Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9
First, I want to thank Jerry Sparks and the Jackson County Sun for giving me the opportunity to write this weekly article. I truly appreciate the chance to reach more people and continue talking about the things that matter to Jackson County.
If you’ve followed me over the last year, you’ve probably figured out one thing about me. I care about this county. I’ve lived in Jackson County the majority of my life. Like a lot of people, I went to work, raised a family, and didn’t pay much attention to county government. That changed when I decided to run for magistrate.
The more meetings I attended, the more questions I asked, and the more people I talked with, the more I realized how important it is for citizens to stay informed and involved. I also realized there are a lot of good people who simply want to be informed, be heard, and see Jackson County move forward.
That’s why communication matters.
So does transparency.
People shouldn’t have to wonder what’s happening in their county. Good communication builds trust. It lets people know they’re being heard, even if every problem can’t be fixed overnight. One thing I hope we never lose in Jackson County is our willingness to help one another.
We’ve seen it recently with the flooding. Neighbors helping neighbors. Churches opening their doors. First responders, road crews, utility workers, volunteers, and so many others put in long hours because people needed help. Nobody was worried about getting credit. They just went to work.
That’s the Jackson County I know.
I also believe our faith is a big part of who we are. None of us are perfect, but the Bible teaches us to love our neighbors, help those in need, and treat people with kindness and respect. Those values shouldn’t stop when we leave church on Sunday. They should be part of how we live every day.
One thing I hope to do is share thoughts from people across Jackson County. A lot of good conversations happen every day, and I don’t think those conversations should stop with just a few people. We all see things from different perspectives, and when we listen to one another, we learn. That’s how we grow as a community.
I don’t expect everyone to agree with me, and that’s okay. We can disagree without tearing each other down. We can ask questions, have honest conversations, and still respect one another. That’s how communities grow stronger.
I don’t have all the answers. I’m still learning every day. What I do know is that nothing gets better when people stop caring. My hope is this article encourages more people to stay informed, ask questions, get involved, and continue sharing their thoughts. Every voice matters, and every one of us has a role in the future of Jackson County.
This county doesn’t belong to one person or one group. It belongs to all of us. One person can’t change a county, but a community working together can.
Until next week, God bless, and remember: If we want better, we have to do better. Speak up, stay involved, and never stop caring about Jackson County.
